Diplomacy usually involves long meetings, policy papers and tight schedules. But when Finnish President Alexander Stubb landed in India this week, he brought along something unexpected; excitement about a Bollywood spy thriller.

Yes, before stepping into official meetings and shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the Finnish leader had already done a bit of “homework.” And that homework involved watching one of India’s biggest films of 2025: ‘Dhurandhar’.

A movie tip from his son

Speaking to ANI during his visit, Stubb shared a surprisingly personal detail about how he ended up watching the film.

According to him, his son insisted that he watch ‘Dhurandhar’ before travelling to India. Curious about the suggestion, the president decided to give it a try.

And clearly, it worked.

Stubb said that the movie’s storyline which revolves around fighting terrorism caught his attention. He added that he is happy to stand against terrorism and is now even looking forward to the film’s sequel.

The spy thriller that dominated 2025

Directed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ hit theatres on December 5, 2025, and quickly turned into a massive box-office sensation. By the end of the year, it had become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. The film blended espionage, political drama, high-octane action.

Its cast included Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi.

The story delivered dramatic twist in its climax. Viewers eventually discover that Hamza, a man sent on a covert mission to Pakistan, is actually Jaskirat Singh Rangi operating undercover.

For those who missed it in theatres, the movie is now available for streaming on Netflix.

Sequel buzz is already loud

The excitement around franchise has only grown stronger with the announcement of its sequel.

On March 7, trailer for ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ was released, instantly sparking massive online chatter. The sequel is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19.

The trailer shows Ranveer Singh returning as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who infiltrates the dangerous criminal world of Lyari while working undercover to dismantle a terror network.
